National Criminal Justice Association

Undergraduate Internship Program

 

The NCJA offers semester-long and summer internships. This internship program is designed to provide substantive experience in criminal justice policy. Interns primarily research and write articles for two weekly newsletters; summarize and analyze criminal justice research reports; report on congressional hearings, Justice Department briefings, and other events; and participate in other projects as assigned. Clerical duties are minimal. This is a remote position. Interns may work from anywhere in the United States. *We do have office space available for those preferring to work onsite). The position requires access to the Internet, Microsoft Office or similar office suite applications, and a phone.

 

Qualified candidates will have excellent writing skills, be inquisitive and hard-working, and have a general interest in criminal justice and/or journalism. Internships are unpaid and available on a full-time or part-time basis throughout the academic year and during the summer. While we prefer students to work between 30 and 40 hours per week, we can work to accommodate academic schedules.

TRIALS

Residential Scholarship Program

 

Trials is the product of a unique partnership among Harvard Law SchoolNYU School of Law, and the Advantage Testing Foundation. It is a residential summer scholarship program for students of racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds that are currently underrepresented at the nation’s leading law schools. Our aim is to help talented students of modest means gain admission to these schools by providing intensive LSAT preparation and a broad-based exposure to diverse aspects of the legal profession. SWEL

Summer Work Experience in Law 
Summer Work Experience in Law (SWEL) is an eight-week program that operates from approximately mid-June through early August.  SWEL Scholars are expected to complete a full-time, paid internship (Monday - Thursday) and attend SWEL Sessions every Friday during the course of the program.

 

SWEL affords students the opportunity to gain an appreciation of the rigors of a career in law and the preparation needed to be successful in such a career.  SWEL targets primarily Greater Cincinnati and Dayton African American high school seniors and college students.  SWEL selects students based on interest and availability and offers supporting classes and supervision to retain student interest over an average three year period.  For application information, visit their website .

Pre-Law Undergraduate Scholars (PLUS) Program

Duke University

The Pre-Law Undergraduate Scholars (PLUS) Program at Duke Law School is a 4-week residential program held on the campus of Duke University that aims to introduce talented rising college sophomores and juniors to the study of law and to the legal profession. The program enrolls 20-40 students per year with the ideal candidate being a strong student who is ready to work hard, engage in coursework, and is interested in the access this program provides toward preparing for a legal education.

 

The program targets students from colleges and universities in the Southeast region of the United States with a focus on Historically Black Colleges and Universities and Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities. As a leading law school in the South, Duke considers the program a significant opportunity to encourage larger numbers of students in the region to not only consider law school but to be prepared to pursue it successfully. While the program is targeted primarily to first- and second-year students of color, we will also seek to include first-generation college students. For application information, visit their website

University of Alabama

The University of Alabama Pre-law Undergraduate Scholars program (“PLUS”) offers a unique and unforgettable experience for college students who are interested in the legal profession. This rigorous four-week program is designed to prepare students for law school or a career in the legal profession by helping them to develop essential core competencies needed to succeed in these areas. The program is primarily directed at undergraduate college students from groups that are underrepresented in the legal profession.

 

The PLUS program is a free four-week paid summer program sponsored by the Law School Admission Council. The program will (1) provide participants with a deeper understanding of legal education via the program’s rigorous doctrinal and experiential skills-based curriculum; (2) help participants develop essential core competencies needed to succeed in the law school application and admissions process, as well as insight into navigating the process; and (3) expose students to a wide range of career paths within the legal profession. For application information, visit their website.

Mount Vernon Leadership Fellows

The Mount Vernon Leadership Fellows Program is a highly selective six week summer institute for rising college juniors offering unparalleled learning and networking opportunities at the home of America’s first president just outside our nation’s capital. HBS Peek Weekend 

HBS Peek Weekend is an educational experience designed for college students to gain knowledge and insight into the MBA degree. Peek Weekend will help participants develop a greater understanding of the challenges leaders face, the many dimensions inherent in the business world, and the impact participants can have on their community and the world through organizational leadership.

 

 

Peek Weekend seeks a diverse group of college students who are exploring career options and want to understand how an MBA can help them achieve their long-term goals. Preference will be given to students who have not had academic or professional exposure (including internships) to business or business-related fields.

Box Business Fellowship Program

The Box Business Fellowship is an opportunity for students to explore business careers in the Tech Industry. We're especially excited to build connections with students who identify with historically underrepresented groups in Tech. Over the course of one week, you will learn about different roles in Sales, Customer Success, Recruiting, and other departments. You will participate in daily workshops to learn business essentials and then practice those skills with the help of mentors. Our co-founders and executives will meet with you to answer your questions and share their experiences. At the end of the program, you will have insight into the career opportunities available and the skills to be successful in those roles.

UC Berkley Goldman School of Public Policy

This summer will mark the 38th year the Goldman School has hosted a Summer Institute in policy skills. Over the years this program has been grounded programmatically to empower and better address the needs of historically under-served communities. The Junior Summer Institute at UC Berkeley offers student participants a rigorous seven-week program of coursework designed to improve the participants’ analytical and quantitative skills vital to success at top-level graduate programs in public policy and international affairs as well as law school. Additionally, the Institute includes a variety of activities intended to give participants a comprehensive knowledge of the opportunities for professional careers in public service. Each year the program admits approximately 30 undergraduates from across the nation.
